For this week’s Galaxy Nexus ROM of the Week, check out C-ROM!

Based on latest Android 4.4.4, C-ROM brings you the best of the latest Android OS along with fantastic features like floating multi-window, custom kernel with overclocking support, On-The-Go-Mode, and much much more.

I am personally using this ROM as daily driver on many of my Android devices and I must say it’s one of the most versatile custom ROMs out there.  For Galaxy Nexus, it is available also for all GSM, Sprint, and Verizon Galaxy Nexus smartphones.

If you are still on older Android OS 4.4.2 or older, it’s definitely time to upgrade your phone as Android 4.4.4 is blazing-fast and should give you around 2o-30% better performance and battery life.  My Antutu scores are near 9000 with this ROM, that’s a whopping 20-30% increase from stock scores of around 6000!

With C-ROM, you will be able to add plenty of shortcuts to make your everyday life easier with its 8 lockscreen slider targets, App Circle Bar, navigation bar/ring targets, PIE Control, OmniSwitch, AppBar, and Gesture Anywhere.  You may not use all of them but using a combination of a few will definitely make your phone easier to use.

Fully functional floating multi-window is on-board with C-ROM, meaning you will be able to enjoy what Note 2/Note 3 users are enjoying right on your Galaxy Nexus and they work without lag.  This is probably one single feature that makes C-ROM outstanding although there’s many other features.

If you are not familiar with customizing custom ROMs, definitely check out the video overview as I go through most of them in nitty, gritty detail.

Overall, C-ROM is highly-recommended for those of you who want to rejuvenate your Galaxy Nexus and make it anew.  So, when you get a chance this week(end), make a backup of your current ROM then flash away and do tell me how much you like it!

Download:

Download C-ROM for Galaxy Nexus GSM (maguro)

Download C-ROM for Galaxy Nexus CDMA Verizon (toro)

Download C-ROM for Galaxy Nexus CDMA Sprint (toroplus)

Download Android 4.4.4 Gapps (I recommend using Micro Gapps then you can get 2 cameras!)

IMPORTANT: You must have CWM Recovery v6.0.4.3 or HIGHER to install KitKat ROMs, if you don’t please update using ROM Manager app on Play Store or you can also use Flashify app to install.  See CWM Recovery page.

To install, reboot into recovery, make backup ROM, wipe data/factory reset, install ROM, install Gapps, and reboot. (If for some reason you end up in a bootloop, reboot into recovery, go to Advanced Wipe for TWRP or Mounts & Storage for CWM, format/wipe /system, then re-install ROM.)

Q&A:

Q: My 3G/4G LTE data is not working!!!
A: See How to Fix 3G/4G LTE data by Manually Setting APN on Android!

Q: I don’t have Play Store nor any of the Google apps!
A: You forgot to install Gapps, reboot into recovery and install it! (See above for download.)

Q: The ROM is not booting!
A: Try formatting /system and re-install ROM, sometimes the system partition gets corrupt and you may have to try 2 or 3 times before the ROM boots.

Q: Battery is draining really fast!
A: If you just installed the ROM, battery may look like it’s draining fast, this happens sometimes when you install a new custom ROM.  Re-charge your phone fully 100% and also let your phone work its magic for couple hours and your battery should get better.  This is normal for all custom ROMs so don’t base your battery life on the first few hours of installing the ROM.
